Swimwear Care

Lycra is a very delicate fabric, and it is this very feature that allows for the sleek, low-drag fit desired in a competition suit.  As with any high-performance product, your proper care will prolong the usable life of this garment.

Polyester is a more durable fabric that does not hug and form to the body as much as Lycra.  It does not stretch like Lycra fabric.  Polyester is more resistant to the chemicals in the pool and for this generally will last long if properly taken care of.

Lycra Polyester
  • Hugs body
  • Does not hug & form to the body like lycra fabric
  • Suit life is shorter
  • Lasts longer than lycra fabric
  • Lycra fabric stretches & will relax
  • Does not stretch like lycra fabric but will relax
  • Breaths better than polyester fabric
  •  Not as breathable as lycra fabric

FITTING

Lycra suits should fit snugly and should not be purchased one size up for growth.  Loose fitting garments do not wear as well as those that conform to the body. Take gentle care when putting on your suit.  Do not pull hard on the suit; be careful that your fingers do not break the elastic.  It is best to put your suit on by pulling it on in stages using the edges.  Once your suit begins to relax, it will go on with greater ease.

TIPS TO REMEMBER

  • To prevent chlorine damage, rinse your suit in cold water immediately after each use.  Allowing the suit to dry before it’s rinsed is particularly damaging.
  • Hand wash and do not wash suit with any detergent
  • Gently wring or blot excess moisture
  • Drip dry, and try to keep out of direct sunlight
  • Do not bleach
  • Do not place suit in a plastic bag nor roll in a towel for more than an hour; mildew can be just as damaging as chlorine.

MOTTO:  Keep it wet or keep it dry but do not keep it damp!

 GOGGLE CARE
  • Rinse goggle with cold water prior to first use
  • Rinse with cool tap water after each use
  • DO NOT WIPE OR TOUCH INSIDE OF LENSES
  • Shake the goggle dry before storing
  • Do not leave in direct sunlight
